As an international tourist destination, Bali keeps on attempting to convince the international world that the Bali provincial government is very serious and has performed a number of anticipation measures against the prevalence of swine flu disease to the Island of the Gods.
For that purpose, PTAngkasa Pura (PAP) I of Ngurah Rai Main Branch as the leading gateway of Bali has installed two devices namely thermal scanner and two units of body cleaner at international arrival terminal.
General Manager of PAP I of Ngurah Rai Airport , Heru Legowo to tens of journalist of print and electronic media at the Ngurah Rai meeting room last week described about the preparedness of the airport to anticipate the swine flu. “Every passenger arriving at international arrival terminal, its body temperature will be detected by thermal scanner. After that, passenger will be proceeded to the outlet of body cleaner device to be sprayed by alcohol of 70%. If the body temperature exceeds 38°Celcius, the device will convey an alarm that means such passenger is identified to be affected by swine flu. By doing so, passenger will be provided with special treatment and later on will be referred to hospital,” said Heru Legowo accompanied by the Head of First Class Airport Health Authority (AHA) of Ngurah Rai Airport , I Nyoman Murtiyasa, Ananto PH and Alex Pujianto, Personnel and General Affair Manager of Ngurah RaiAiiport.
Of course, such condition is different from the status of Ngurah Rai Airport becoming the only one international entrance gate to Bali. Apart from providing the two devices, the Airport Health Authority also prepares special clinic for handling emergency case to passenger identified to be infected by swine flu. “We have alerted 4 physicians and 8 medical officers at this clinic, ”Murtiyasa added.
Besides, I Nyoman Murtiyasa also explained that other than detector set up at the international arrival terminal, the authority also alerted a special clinic especially intended for handling the swine flu suspects. “This clinic denotes a part of swine flu handling system becoming an integrated package with thermal scanner and body cleaner that have been installed on last 21 April. This proves the preparedness of the Ngurah Rai Airport to provide security and convenience to visitors,” explained Murtiyasa.
Both Murtiyasa and Heru Legowo ensured the preparedness of Bali and at the same time showed to the international community that Indonesia, Bali in particular, has been ready to perform anticipation measures against such outbreak “In essence, the Ngurah Rai Airport is extremely ready to anticipate the swine flu and provide security to tourists visiting Bali,” they explained.
In the meantime, Personnel and General Affairs Manager of PAP I, Alex Pudjianto, added, though the swine flu case was getting stronger, but to the extent there was no indication of the prevalence spread to Bali through the Ngurah Rai Airport “We apply the same procedure to passengers from overseas. Either regular, VIP passengers or airline crews should pass through the thermal scanner in advance,” said Alex while explaining that if the result of thermal scanner indicated the body temperature of passengers above 38°Celcius, the passenger would be directed toy cleaner to be sprayed by alcohol of 70%.
Then, what will happen if encountering passenger of swine flu suspect? Alex admitted that his party has established coordination with all parties at the airport, ranging from the AHA, airline, custom and excise, quarantine and immigration office to implement fixed procedures that have been agreed, namely putting in quarantine the aircraft including all passengers and its crews. “For passengers identified to be swine flu suspect, we will refer it to recommended hospital,” he added Countries affected by Swine Flue: Mexico, the United States. Waiting for confirmation: New Zealand Australia and England.
